Ready to give your home’s appearance a boost? There are many ways to accentuate the charms your home already possesses. If you’re not sure where to begin your DIY home improvement projects, consider updating your home’s lighting:

Highlight your space with lighting

Adding beautiful lighting can set the tone of your space. A great place to start is by examining the three types of lighting: Ambient, task and accent lighting. Ambient lighting illuminates an entire room, like an overhead lamp or chandelier.

Task lighting shines in an area meant for a specific purpose, like a desk or reading lamp. Accent lighting brings attention to certain interest points, like spotlights on houseplants or artwork. Combining these different lighting types can help significantly in creating the perfect mood for your space.

Accentuate with crown molding

Think of crown molding as a beautiful necklace for your space. It’s affordable and can give an elegant aesthetic to walls and doors. This project can also be done in just a few hours, depending on how many places you would like to add the crown molding to.

De-grime your house

The exterior of your home can also benefit from some simple DIY projects. Consider renting or purchasing a pressure washer. This powerful device can quickly knock away scum and debris from exterior features like window frames, siding or driveways.

Other simple DIY home improvement projects

For even more simple DIY home improvement, consider these projects:

  • Getting your carpets professionally cleaned - Doing so will give your carpeted room a fresh appearance.
  • Painting your front door can give an updated effect to your home’s entranceway.
  • Shower heads can become a bit rusted and clogged with time. Adding a new shower head improves the flow of water and can give your shower area a sleeker aesthetic.

Making a few small changes to your space can make a big impact on your home’s overall appearance. Once you’ve decided on your next upgrade, you can find affordable supplies at your local home improvement store to bring your DIY projects to life.
